Smile Video final cut and Evaluation

Image
My video is finally finished. I am very happy with the outcome of the video and the story that it tells. The product:  The video is meant to show how a young person has gone from being sad and lonely, to then being happy and smiling due to the fact that they went for a walk to see the sunrise. I chose to do this due to the fact that the audience will be lower in the social grade due to the fact they are at college / Uni. The video aimes to show how no money is needed in order to make yourself smile and be happy. I have chose to make the video very simplistic in the sense of storytelling and technical skill. Controversy to most filming techniques i decided not to include movement within the camera itself.  Action sequences are full of camera movement in order to heighten and keep the flow of action. The movement is usually used in order to make the audience feel as if they are there with the people in the action sequence. They are feeling each punch. I don't want my audience to...

Smile re-edit

Upon editing I was fairly confident with the fact that i would find a font that I liked. However most fonts are very thick or very fine. I knew what I was wanting but it was none of the images that were currently displayed. Not long after I was able to find the right font. This font is very light on the image but holds a serious tone. I think it works well within the feedback that I was given by people and works well with the overall brief. The font is also easier to read and stands off from the background. I am confident in my video and believe it is now at the the best standard it can be.

Smile video feedback

Image
In order to make sure that the video is engaging and as engaging with the audience, we must do a screening to a small group of people. By having a screening, we are able to see real peoples reactions to the picture and see if they understand what the video is about and see if they feel any emotions with the video itself. After screening, I will conduct a form that allows me to see their feedback on the film. To me, the most important pieces of feedback is the negatives. Anything that a viewer finds wrong with a product, will be what they remember the most. So, after my feedback I will need to go back into post production and change what is faulty with the product. Thankfully, the audience well received the the message and client of the video. This is  already great as it means that the editing used was able to keep the storyline streamline and effective. By having everyone understand, this means that my purpose of the video has been successfully done. As stated before, I want...

podcast post-production

Image
To start off editing, I began by importing my music and dialogue. At the beginning I had problems talking so there is slight issues with how clear my speech is. To cover this up I am going to make sure that the music covers up my speech at the start. I am going to make the music slowly fade out and fade in towards the end of the music. I chose the selected music as it is up beat. By juxtaposing with the deep content of the podcast, it will hopefully bring a balanced and relaxed feeling to the conversation. I was unable to edit much of the podcast due to issues with the recording of the podcast itself. This is discussed further in my podcast production. My plan was to start post production and because of my past experiences with editing, I gave myself three weeks to complete the editing process. During the first week of post production, I began by adding the music and making sure it faded in well. I began by doing some basic cuts and stitching.  The next time of post producti...

Smile Post-Production Diary

For my post-production I have decided to use premier pro. Premier pro is an editing program that allows you to splice, edit and colour grade footage. As shown in the pre-production, the beginning of my footage will be using  the same colour grade.  17th January - today I have started to edit my smile campaign video. I found the appropriate audio that I wanted. I gained my music from epidemic sound . Epidemic sound is a website where you give a monthly subscription and gain access to thousands of tracks and and sound effects. I decided to choose two audio clips. My first audio is very dull and deep. This will help with my editing as the audio conveys and reinforces the depressed mood that I wish to give off. My second audio clip is high pitched which conveys a happier tone. Audio is very important to a video as it helps tell the mood of a video and also the pace of clips. The audience unconsciously take in audio and it helps them tell the story to themselves. This is  why ...

Smile Campaign recording diary

Image
Day 1 - I have began recording for my video and am recording inside of the house. When recording during the early morning, clips were too dark and were not working well. Detail was not being captured well in the shadows which left a very unflattering and grainy image. To counter this I would have to shoot during the  day. I spoke to the owner and they allowed me to stay for the whole day and record. This means I will be able to do the correct recording. to know how to properly expose my image I would need do to a test.  The video below shows my test footage and allows me to see how the final look will be.  Over the next few days, and today, I will allow the camera to roll a few seconds before I do the action that is needed in the scene. This will make editing easier as I will be able to cut where I want the actions to take place and will make sure I capture the full action. During recording I ran into a major issue. Due to the fact that the time between there being enough...

Smile Campaign Pre-Production forms (podcast)

Image
In order to make sure that I know where i am recording, when I am recording and if I have permission to record, I have to use forms. Below are location scouting forms that are used when looking for possible locations. For example, a company may have 20 locations in mind, but they need to record on certain dates and times. The location scouting sheets contain information about the soundscape, dates and times you can record, Adress and who to contact. After going through the scouting processs a company will narrow the locations down to the best area to record in. After this, they will contact the company for permissions to record and fianalise details. I have my own versions of these forms which grant me permission to record inside Sunderland College. To make recording as safe as possible, risk assessments must be taken in order to know what poses as a risk. Due to the podcast being recorded while sitting down, there arnt many risks but they must be done. therfore, before recording start...

resource list

Resource lists are used in order for the crew to see what they need to bring onto set and allows us to tick everything off once we have it. This means we can clearly see what we have and need. it is the most effective way of working because you are not relying on others memory. Resource list video from Bailey44

Smile Podcast Notes/script

When going into the podcast I don’t want to be thinking on the spot about what we are going to talk about. I want the podcast to seem natural and not feel like we are r eading off a script.  Therefore,  I am not going to make this plan  extremely  detailed. I want to give the cast the option to talk about  their  own experiences  i n their own way and not  feel held back. This will engage with the audience more as they will feel like the cast are being honest and will give the impression that our advice  will help.   Start:   Welcome to the Mind Smile Podcast   Introduce  the people    Talk about the purpose of the Podcast   Main:   When would you  say  is the last time you lost motivation  completely?   From that, what helped you  get back to your normal self?   Were any of the method's unhealthy obsessions? Smile Storyboarding

In order to make sure that I know what shots I am getting and to minimise the time thinking out in the field, I have created a storyboard. Storyboards are a very common and critical part of when it comes to Production and editing. The cinematographer and director will use these in order to visualise a scene and use it to see how a story unfolds. It is also great incase a director is unsure. He can be broad or very detailed. He could for example let someone walk through the whole frame or only a portion. This means that time is shortened on projects that time doesnt need to be wasted on. It is great for editors, as they can visually see the directors visions on the project, but also incorperate there own creativity on parts that are less detailed and secure.   Storyboard from Bailey44

Script

In order to make sure I have a clear understanding of scenes, I need to make sure I have a basic script. the script will be short due to the fact there is no dialogue. My Video is very basic and does not have a lot of things happening. It will be short and not include many conventions of media products. However, this is because I am wanting to make the video connect to the audience on a personal level. My ideas will be shown more on the storyboard. I have used celtx program to make sure it matches the master scene script format. this is the basic format for all scripts. Script mental health from Bailey44

Smile Audience profile

In here is my audience profile which shows the audience clearly. After I finish my research, in a work environment, I would send this to the rest of the team members so they can see visually see what the audience are like and what we would need to include in order to meet the audience.  Audience profile from Bailey44

Rational

In the real world, you would have to present you ideas to the client in order to get the "green light". This rational is a showcase of my research and my ideas. This showcase is to show the client that you understand them, the purpose of the video and how you are going to relate to audience. This rational is what all of my research has lead up to. Existing media (smile)

Image
I am going to conduct research into existing products so I have a better idea as of what I should and could create and how they give an impact. This is used by companies in order to understand what the competition is creating campaigns and how we can better their work. I am doing this research so I can find out what is already on the market, deconstruct them to see what works and then apply that to my own work in the future. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBS7v-v5oMo CAMH's has done a YouTube video about anxiety. The video begins with a girl talking in hospital bed. We can tell this because she is in a plain room with a plain blue hospital gown on. she begins by saying that she can't breath. This gives the video an instant drop into the scenario. The tone of the video is very serious and the colors are very desaturated. This is not a  happy video. By knowing this video is by CAMH's and she begins saying she can't breath, we can tell that, in terms of theory, this video...
